Great (Free) Desktop Backgrounds
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 12:00 AM
I'm someone who is extremely picky about what type of background to put on my laptop. You may not think it's a huge deal, but I think your background says a lot about you. I think it can tell what personality traits you have, what interests you, and other various quirks about yourself. Right now, this is my background image:
If you are as picky about background images as I am, then I'm here to help. Here are great places to find wonderful backgrounds that range from beautiful to quirky.
First up is David Lanham. He has a lot of fun and cartoon-ish backgrounds to choose from (like the one I'm using now). Some are very cute (like the kitty in the bathtub) and others are just plain bizarre. The vector art is gorgeous and completely worth checking out. Browse through and see if you can find some you like.
Next on the list is Customize.org. This really is the variety site. You can find just about anything you want to here. You can lose a lot of hours trying to find just the right design.
Another great place (and popular) to find background images is deviantART. You can find a variety of images here, but know that they tend to swing towards cartoon and anime style backgrounds. There are also a lot of digitally created images worth looking at as well.
The last one I'll note is mandolux. The reason they make the list is because they have a lot of multi-monitor backgrounds to choose from. Even if you don't have a multiple monitor setup, some of the individual panels still make for great backgrounds.
So there you go. You should never be at a shortage of beautiful looking backgrounds again. Have a place you love to go to get backgrounds? Leave 'em in the comments.
