The Pocket Guide to the Bible

Thanks to all who commented yesterday. I have to say that it certainly makes this blog more exciting when it's not just me rambling. I hope to see more comments in the future, although I suppose it means that I need to write comment worthy blog posts. Don't hold your breath. On another note, those that are reading this through Google Reader, that's right, I'm talking to you, may need to resubscribe. For some reason when I switched the domain name, it didn't auto update and I couldn't even get it to update in my own feed. I suggest unsubscribing and then subscribing again with the inproximity.org address. Thanks.

Today I'd like to plug a book that you all should check out. I'm doing this because I think it's a unique deal and I want to plug my friend, and by friend I mean person's blog that I read but probably has no idea who I am, but you get the idea.

The book is Pocket Guide to the Bible by Jason Boyett. Here's why I say this. First of all, the book is great. I thought it was going to be cheesy or something else like most Bible readers are, but this is actually good. Not only is is accurate, but it's very funny. It's got a glossary of Bible characters, a summary of the whole Bible, and other miscellaneous goodies. The reason to pick up the book this very moment is because Jason is offering a very special deal. You can buy the book for 6.99 (list price of 11.99) and he will sign the book and personally ship it to you. I just got mine today and not only was the book signed, but it also had another piece of paper that said, "Thanks, Tone! (cool name.)" It's a nice personal touch my friends. If you want to read the whole story, you can check it out here or check out his blog with the link on the right.

I'll leave you with some book excerpts. The last chapter of the book is a miscillaneous collection of lists and sayings from the Bible, and here are some of my favorites:

Four Biblical Excuses that no Longer Work Very Well: 1) "A talking serpent deceived me" (Gen. 3:13). 2) "I might be overtaken by evil in the mountains" (Gen. 19:19). 3) "Giants" (Num 13:31-33). 4) "I just bought five yoke of oxen and need to test them" (Luke 14:19).

Seven Phrases From the Book of Judges that Would Make Awesome Band Names: 1) The Nether Springs (1:15 KJV) 2) Cushan-Rishathaim (3:8 ) 3) The Heads of Oreb and Zeeb (7:25) 4) Millo (9:6) 5) Forsake My Sweetness (9:11 KJV) 6) The Tribe of Dan (18:30) 7) Certain Sons of Belial (19:22 KJV)

One Phrase from the King James Version, Used Generically to Describe Males that Raises Eyebrows When Employed in General Conversation: "Any who pisseth against the wall" (1 Sam 25:22, 34; 1 Kings 14:10, 16:11, 21:21; 2 Kings 9:8).

It's under ten bucks! Why not give it a shot? It's certainly no Fee or Stuart, but it's a nice light read to add to the collection. Regular non endorsing blogging resumes Friday. :-)

Hah, turns out someone is reading out there. But if it is showing up in your Google Reader, you may be fine, I know I was having issues with my own blog of all things. Although I spose if someone is reading it through Google Reader and not getting updates they are not going to see my comments anyways huh? Sigh... the complexities of technology.
