Crazy Dream, part 1

Good Friday everyone! Get it, because it's good Friday? Sigh... But as I say to most people, Good Friday is actually quite the ironic name because it's a day we are supposed to be mourning Christ's death. I'd encourage if you have some time at 3 this afternoon to stop and remember the pain and sorrow He had to go through.

I decided to go into the archives on facebook and look at some notes I've written in the past. I found this awesome note from a year ago that describes the craziest dream I've ever had in my life. Now keep in mind that I don't usually dream very vividly or remember my dreams, but for some reason, this one has stuck with me. Someone told me I could write a script and turn it into a movie. Over the next couple of weeks, every Friday, you'll get another chunk of the dream, from which I'll tell the story from first person. Oh, and it most likely will be so ridiculous, parts won't make sense. So without further ado, here's the beginning of "Crazy Dream."

An odd silence fills the air. I'm sitting in the car, fading in and out of sleep, only to be awoken from time to time by potholes that litter the road. The warmth from the sun that is magnified by the windshield brings me an almost eerie sense of comfort. It's the comfort I need that always brings me back into my slumbering state. To be honest, I still don't know why we're going up to Duluth. It's not like we have family there or anything, the whole thing just doesn't seem to make sense.

"Mom, why are we even going to Duluth in the first place?"

"You're just going to have to see when we get there," my mom replies ever so mysteriously.

And so the journey continues, with the purpose yet to be revealed to me. I see the sign for Duluth, population 86,918. As I look off to the right, I see the wonder and the beauty that is Lake Superior. The way that the sun's rays bounce off of the Lake could bring anybody to ecstasy. As I'm looking at the sun's rays, something odd starts to appear from the sun. At first, I thought perhaps it was a gigantic solar flare. But then this spot grows larger and larger, and slams into the Lake.

Everyone stops in their tracks. Cars pull over, people crowd around to see what is going on. Could it have been an asteroid? But not more than seconds after the first one fell, more and more of these objects fall from the sky. Houses are crushed, roads destroyed, bridges taken out, and people are running around in a chaotic panic. My mom and I run to the nearest place for shelter, realizing that no place may be safe if these things continue to fall from the sky.

As we are running, we pass one of these objects and I try and get a glimpse of what they are. They look as though they are giant pieces of metal, polished and shined to perfection. They are much larger up close, about the size of 2 garbage trucks.

We run and are able to find a enclave of sorts. There is rock enclosure built up all around us, and we think that this enclave can protect us if something were to fall on us. As we sit and wait in the enclave, something out of this world happens. These metallic hunks begin to grow 3 legs and tower to the size of a sky scraper. What looks like an eye appears on these hunks, but all it is is a giant red spot. And then the unthinkable happens. I watch as those red spots grow brighter until they shoot laser beams at everything around them.

It pains me even to describe now, but everything hit by these beams explode. Buildings explode to launch debris everywhere. Cars combust into giants flaming balls of metal. People explode, flinging their entrails and blood everywhere. It's the most gruesome thing that I have ever seen in my lifetime. And then I think to myself... is this it? Is this the end of the world? My mom and I don't know what to do, paralyzed by fear. It's then that my cell phone rings and I receive a text message. The phone number is unlisted, but all it says is, "Look Up."

My mom and I look up and one of the large pieces of metal is falling right above us. We brace ourselves for impact, knowing that we may be crushed. As it barrels towards us, we close our eyes, expecting to die in this very moment. And then, a large impact, everything shakes. We look up and the metal hunk was stopped by the cliff we had chosen to surround ourselves with. I get another message and it says, "Believe me? Run North. Now."
