The New Seven Deadly Sins
Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 1:50 AM
Happy March 12th! Did you know that on this day in 1923, the first movie with sound was recorded. Just thought you should know.
If you haven't heard already, the Catholic Church has updated it's list of mortal sins to be taken into effect immediately. Let me sum up how the Roman Catholic sin system works so we can all be on the same page. There are basically two types of sins, mortal/deadly and venial. Venial sins are relatively minor sins that can be forgiven while mortal sins requires absolution through confession and penitence.
A quick recap for those not in the know. The traditional seven deadly sins are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. While they thought that these were good guidelines, the Catholic Church decided that those sins needed to be updated for today's modern culture. So with that said, here is the added list of what I call, "The New Seven Deadly Sins:"
Polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia, and causing social injustice. Keep in mind that these are being named as mortal sins, requiring confession and penitence.
It's interesting what a broad spectrum the list tries to hit. What do you think about these?

well, at least they're trying to keep themselves relevant. I think it's a good idea.
but why stop at 7?
Seriously?! I think it's dumb.
Polluting: What constitutes pollution? Are we not allowed to fart because it creates too much CO2 therefore contributing to global warming? Are we not supposed to create any waste at all? Stop riding busses? Not make campfires?
genetic engineering: fair game. Must stink for scientists though...and people with Parkinsons.
being obscenely rich: Hmm...I feel like this one is already covered in 'Greed' Also...is obscenely rich anyone who has more money than the pope?
drug dealing: Well..this one isn't really covered in the Bible is it? Taking drugs isn't respecting your body...but selling them?
abortion: I also think this one is double covering murder (Thou shalt not kill)
pedophilia: Again, already covered with 'lust'
causing social injustice: fair enough.
First of all, is this for real? because I don't exactly believe it.....
Second, Meghan = absolutely hilarious... If farting is a sin, we're all in a lot of trouble...haha
It is weird that these sins are so extreme- they have to reiterate the fact that these are mortal even though they go way beyond the original 7 in severity and specificity. Is that weird to anyone else?
This is for real folks.
