A Wake Up Call

What does it take to get truly desperate?  When is it that we finally let our shields down and become vulnerable? When do we finally let our pride die and let humility reign?

I'm thinking right now of a situation rising up in the church that I'm at. Our church is facing major financial issues, which if it doesn't fix itself in the next couple of weeks, will result in some drastic changes. It's kind of terrifying stuff. In our last staff meeting, we spend the whole time talking about soluitions and what could be done to fix it. Then our senior pastor told us to get on our knees (literally), and that we were going to humble ourselves before God. I thought it was a great idea.

But then I started thinking. Why does it take financial trouble for the staff of this church to get on our knees? Shouldn't this a practice that we are doing all the time in ministry? We need to be humble in everything that we do, that's the heart of ministry. I'm sure that most of our financial problems right now are due to the fact that as a Church, we got cocky and decided to do ministry without the complete dependency of God. Unfortunately, in our case, taking away our finances was the only way to wake this staff up.

So here's what I'm proposing for everyone in the Kingdom of God. We humble ourselves everyday before the Lord. It won't necessarily prevent problems from coming our way, but it sure as heck will allow us to have solid grounding when troubles do come. We cannot let pride eat away at our ministries today, and I'm more than convinced that we all are letting more pride in our lives than we like to admit. So let's get on our knees, and revert ourselves to true humility.
