Hi there! My name is Tone Hoeft and I'm a graduate student at Eastern Washington University pursuing my Master's in Communications. I was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN but have now ventured away from home to live in Spokane, WA. To pay the bills, I teach undergraduate classes at Eastern and have been known to write the occasional article every now and then.
So why the name "In Proximity?" Thanks to the internet and globalization, the world is becoming a smaller place everyday. One of the effects of this is that people are exchanging ideas all the time. It also means that eventually, you have to deal with people that think differently than you. We are in a sense, becoming more and more in proximity to each other everyday.
While this is my personal blog, you'll notice several themes. I tend to write about culture, religion, worldviews, movies, books, video games, music, politics, media, and philosophy. Yeah, it's a long list to tackle, but such is the consequence of living in a world that is becoming smaller. It means that it is easier to find interesting stuff all the time.
I tend to think through things critically and approach topics from different angles. One of the things I appreciate in a person is being able to think through things on their own accord. Because of this, I've come to find that my own thoughts are short-sighted at times and will only get better with feedback. I always encourage you to write down your thoughts in the comments and start a conversation. Our ideas only get more firm through dialogue and discussion.
I also host a podcast here called "Top 3cast." If you like current events or listening to people talk about what's going on in the world today, I suggest you give it a listen. And if you like it, why not tell your friends? In fact, it's highly encouraged! Thanks for stopping by!
